Spaying and Neutering

Did you know that by spaying or neutering your pet, you can actually help them live a longer, healthier life? In fact, there are many health benefits linked to these procedures, which is why we strongly recommend them for all of our feline and canine patients. Here at Bienville Animal Medical Center, our mission is to provide pets with the best possible care while educating clients on why we make the recommendations we do, including spaying and neutering.

Just as with every other surgery we perform here in Ocean Springs, we use only the most advanced tools and technology for every spay and neuter procedure. We also have a state-of-the-art sterile surgical suite and use the most up-to-date anesthetic protocols. With that in mind, you can be confident that your pet will be well-cared for during their surgery.

When to Spay/Neuter

As animal hospital that’s accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, we abide by the most updated guidelines when it comes to spaying and neutering. According to these guidelines, healthy pets can be spayed and neutered as young as 8 weeks of age. The exact age recommendation, however, is dependent on your pet’s breed. It’s important for pets to be spayed/neutered within a certain time frame (such as before the first heat cycle) in order for them to experience the most health benefits. We typically discuss this in more detail during a puppy’s/kitten’s first wellness exam.

Benefits of Spaying and Neutering

Spaying and neutering are two of the most common pet surgeries we perform at our hospital, due to the many benefits they provide.
